Veterans receiving counseling and other services at the Louis Stokes Cleveland Veterans Affairs Medical Center can now take online classes there through Cuyahoga Community College.

CLEVELAND, Ohio -- Veterans receiving counseling and other services at the Louis Stokes Cleveland Veterans Affairs Medical Center can now take online classes there through Cuyahoga Community College.

The Tri-C Veterans' Education Connection Center, which will be dedicated today, may be the first distance-learning lab in any VA center, officials said.

"As far as I know, it is the first of its kind," said Elizabeth Wilber, spokeswoman for the center at Wade Park in University Circle. "It's pretty exciting."

Five computer workstations, including two with high-resolution visual acuity monitors to help people with concentration and vision issues, are in a third-floor room where VA counselors meet with veterans, said Richard DeChant, executive director of veterans services and programs for Tri-C.

Matt Miller, an Army veteran who had run Tri-C's program that provides support services for veterans who want to attend college, will be the college's full-time coordinator at the VA center. He will help veterans register for classes, apply for GI Bill benefits and provide resources. "
