Census Jobs

CLEVELAND -- There are still 3,000 temporary jobs available in Cuyahoga County with the 2010 U.S. Census. The census bureau will hold a job fair from 3 p.m. to 8 p.m. today (Friday) at the Broadway United Methodist Church.

The Broadway United Methodist Church is at 5246 Broadway Avenue in the Slavic Village area.

At the job fair, you will answer questions and take the required confidential, 30-minute test to enter the pool of candidates.

No appointment is necessary, but the bureau prefers that applicants call ahead at its toll-free recruiting number at 1-866-861-2010.

You must be a U.S. citizen, at least 18 years old, and have a valid driver's license. Potential employees will undergo background checks.

Census takers work from 20 to 40 hours a week, primarily in their own neighborhoods, during evenings and weekends.

Pay for office jobs starts at $11.50 per hour in Cuyahoga County. Census takers in the field are paid $15.25 per hour, plus mileage reimbursement.

Officials say that the temporary jobs usually last six to 12 weeks, but can be longer.

More information is available and the application process can be started at 2010censusjobs.gov or by calling 1-866-861-2010.
